Calendar dates are not always useful for planning client work, service delivery or project milestones. This business days calculator counts selected working days between two dates or calculates a deadline from a start date and a required number of working days.
You can edit the workweek, choose a country preset for common fixed holidays and add up to three manual holiday dates. The result separates working days, calendar span and excluded dates so the assumptions remain visible.
The calculator has two modes:
Both modes include the start date when it is an eligible working day. In count mode, the end date is included as well.
At least one weekday must be selected. In count mode, the end date must be on or after the start date. In deadline mode, the target must be a whole number from 1 to 10,000.
For a date range, the calculator begins with every calendar date from the start date through the end date. It then excludes dates whose weekday is not selected and selected-working-day holidays.
Working days = calendar days − non-working weekdays − eligible holiday exclusions
A holiday that already falls on an unselected weekday is not double-counted. This makes the working-day total and excluded-date total reconcile with the calendar span.
For a deadline, the calculator evaluates dates from the start date forward and returns the date on which the requested count of eligible working days is reached.
Using a Monday-to-Friday workweek with no holidays, 1 September 2026 through 10 September 2026 contains 10 calendar days. Eight are working days and two are excluded weekend dates.
If a selected working day within that range is added as a manual holiday, the working-day total decreases by one and the holiday-exclusion count increases by one.
Starting on Thursday 10 September 2026 with a Monday-to-Friday workweek and no holidays, a target of 10 working days produces Wednesday 23 September 2026. The inclusive span is 14 calendar days, with four weekend dates excluded.
Changing the target to five working days produces Wednesday 16 September 2026.
Not every business operates Monday to Friday. Select or clear individual weekdays to reflect a six-day service schedule, a four-day team, weekend work or another recurring pattern. The calculator updates the count and deadline using the selected weekdays.
A custom workweek is an assumption, not a statement about statutory working rules. Confirm any employment, contractual or regulatory requirements separately.
The United States, United Kingdom and Netherlands presets include a limited set of common fixed-date holidays. They do not automatically cover every movable, regional, observed or company holiday. Enter those dates manually when they matter to the calculation.
Observed-day rules can differ when a holiday falls on a weekend. Check the relevant calendar and add the observed date manually rather than assuming the preset has shifted it.
Use the result as a transparent planning estimate for proposals, delivery schedules, appointment capacity and internal workload discussions. Keep the chosen workweek and holiday assumptions with the estimate so another person can reproduce it.
Before committing to a customer deadline, allow for lead times, dependencies, review cycles, staff availability and contractual terms that are not represented by a weekday count.
Yes. Count mode includes both boundary dates when they are selected working days and are not excluded as holidays. Deadline mode counts the start date when it is eligible.
No. A holiday is counted as a holiday exclusion only when it falls on a selected working weekday.
Yes. Each weekday is editable, so you can choose any recurring weekly pattern as long as at least one day is selected.
No. Presets are limited to common fixed dates. Add movable, regional, observed and company holidays manually.
No. The result is a planning estimate. Verify holiday rules, contractual definitions and operational constraints before relying on it for a binding commitment.
