ConvertSite skills over MCP
ConvertSite's MCP server serves three skills to authenticated connections: convertsite-copy-flow, convertsite-design-director, and convertsite-reference-recreator. These three are the complete set the server offers over MCP. A client that supports the MCP Skills extension (io.modelcontextprotocol/skills) discovers and loads them directly from the connection, so you do not need to install the ConvertSite plugin to receive them.
The three skills
Skill | What it does | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Moves an existing website or brand into ConvertSite. | The site or brand is yours, or you are authorized to reproduce it. |
| Builds and edits ConvertSite websites and standalone embeds. | You want any ordinary ConvertSite build, edit, or review. |
| Recreates the visual structure of a URL or screenshot you supply. | You point at one explicit reference and ask to match it. |
Copy an existing site or brand (convertsite-copy-flow)
This skill converts a supplied live URL into a native, editable ConvertSite site. It transfers the page structure and styles, maps interactive elements to native ConvertSite components, and checks the result at desktop, tablet, and mobile widths.
The skill only applies to sites you own or are authorized to reproduce. If the URL clearly belongs to someone else and authorization is not established, the AI asks before copying content and images, or suggests recreating the structure as inspiration instead.
The AI builds into a new unpublished site unless you name an existing target, and it never publishes without your explicit request: a request to copy does not by itself authorize publishing.
For example: "Copy my current site into ConvertSite so I can keep editing it there. I own it; here is the URL."
Build or edit sites and embeds (convertsite-design-director)
This skill is the default for ConvertSite implementation work: new websites, landing pages, template adaptations, edits to existing sites, read-only reviews, and standalone embeds such as calculators, quote tools, configurators, quizzes, and forms.
The skill treats websites and embeds differently. An embed that is the main deliverable attaches to one existing host site and inherits that site's theme, typography, and colors; a calculator inside a requested website is treated as part of the site. For template adaptations, the AI copies the template first and never edits the shared original. When a task is about matching an explicit visual reference, the skill itself directs the AI to the reference-recreator skill instead.
As with the other skills, the AI does not publish unless you explicitly ask.
For example: "Build a landing page with a quote calculator for my accounting firm, in our brand colors."
Recreate a supplied reference (convertsite-reference-recreator)
This skill recreates an explicitly supplied URL or screenshot when you ask to match its visual structure. It is not for ordinary site generation or loose inspiration: you must supply the reference yourself.
The AI works on a new unpublished site or a target you designate, treats the reference as read-only, and builds to the reference's look by default. The result is checked visually against the reference, and publishing happens only when you ask for it.
For example: "Rebuild this landing page as a ConvertSite site," with a screenshot or URL attached.
Which clients receive the skills
Compatibility depends on the AI client's support for the MCP Skills extension; not every client exposes the skills automatically. A supporting client discovers the three skills through the connection, and each skill's name and description tell the AI what it is for. Clients without extension support can still use the skills: every skill file is readable as a skill://<skill-name>/<path> resource, each skill's SKILL.md appears in the connection's resource listing, and the server instructions point the AI to the right skill file for site and embed work.
How a skill loads
A skill never starts on its own. The server offers the skills and their descriptions, but a skill reaches the conversation only when the AI client's skill-loading path activates it, and under the MCP Skills extension that activation follows your explicit instruction.
To use a skill, ask for it by name: "use the ConvertSite copy-flow skill to copy my site", or "load the ConvertSite design-director skill and build the landing page". Describing the task in the skill's own words also helps the AI choose, but nothing loads a skill unless the client activates it. For site and embed builds, the server instructions additionally tell the AI to load skill://convertsite-design-director/SKILL.md.
Who can read the skills
Skill access is available to authenticated MCP connections without an additional administrator-role requirement. The skills are readable guidance only: the work the AI does in your workspaces still follows the connection's normal access.
Can you add your own skills?
No. The three skills are a fixed set we ship with the server; there is no way to add, upload, or customize skills from your account yet. The ConvertSite plugin also carries manual shortcuts that are only usable by you directly and are not served over MCP.
